The role
Reporting to the Manager Mining Geotechnical, the Consultant Geotechnical Engineer will undertake routine professional minor tasks and phases of broader assignment such as the management of underground and open pit operational issues, tunnelling and general infrastructure design, risk management and operational support. This work will be undertaken as part of a team under the guidance of higher-level professionals as to method of approach and reviewed for validity, and adequacy, but with some individual professional judgement to ensure delivery on time and on budget, while meeting Coffey’s exacting quality standards.
The key accountabilities of the role are:
- Assist with the management of underground and open pit operational issues, tunnelling and general infrastructure risk management strategies.
- Assist to develop systems for the recording and tracking geotechnical inspections and identifying key areas of geotechnical concern.
- Management and implementation of data collection from drill core, face mapping and photogrammetry for geotechnical assessment.
The person
To be considered for this position, you must hold an accredited degree in Engineering (Civil) or Bachelor of Science (Engineering Geology / Mining Engineering / Geology) or post graduate equivalents. You will demonstrate strong technical knowledge gained through a minimum of 4 years employment in the sector. You experience may have come from direct employment in the mining sector, or through related industries or consultancies.
You will display outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills as well as a motivated and goal-oriented approach. An excellent level of ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships utilising your high level communication skills are further key requirements.
A willingness to work in the field and travel within the region and a strong drive to develop geotechnical skills, learning from team members is also essential to your success.
