Background / General description:

IFC finances private sector investments, mobilizes capital in international financial markets, helps clients improve social and environmental sustainability, and provides advisory services to businesses and governments in the developing world. 

IFC is looking to recruit an Investment Officer to work within the Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services (MAS) department. Within MAS, the candidate will focus on sourcing and executing debt, equity, and hybrid investments in the Consumer Services space, with a strong emphasis on the Health, Education, Food Retail, Affordable Housing, and Life Sciences sectors as well as supporting portfolio supervision in these sectors. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned investment professional with strong experience in leading a variety of transactions in emerging markets. A well-established track record of originating, executing, and subsequently managing investments is a prerequisite. This position will be based either in Istanbul, Turkey or Cairo, Egypt and will entail extensive travel in the Southern and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Middle East and North Africa (EMENA) region.
Duties and Accountabilities:
• Screening proposals for early review and providing guidance in the preparation of investment committee materials with a key focus on overall equity/ credit assessment and deal structuring

• Developing and executing a strategy for business development and client engagement with the objective of building a robust pipeline of investments for the Consumer Services team

• Acting as a key relationship manager for Consumer Services clients, particularly those with a regional and/or global footprint

• Evaluate, structure, negotiate, and commit new transactions, portfolio restructurings, capital increases, and equity sales, amongst others. Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions involving a variety of instruments 

• Manage projects through all stages of IFC’s investment processing cycle from project development to disbursement, with a focus on equity / credit assessment and deal structuring / risk mitigation 

• Ensure that standards are met with respect to client service, timely processing, thorough due diligence and the quality of internal and external materials and the data therein

• Monitor, manage, and report on the performance of IFC’s Consumer Services investment portfolio in EMENA

• Mentor junior staff
Selection Criteria:
• At least 8 years of experience at top-tier financial institution(s) in an equity, debt, and/or M&A context, 

• MBA or Masters Degree in Finance, Economics, International Business, Development Studies, or related field 

• Extensive experience in business development, evidenced by excellent interpersonal skills, established industry contacts and a demonstrated ability to originate transactions and incubate new ideas

• Ability to interact directly and independently with senior company management, lawyers, transaction advisors, and senior government officials

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills and sound business judgment to identify potential issues and present creative and practical solutions

• Ability to work successfully in multicultural teams, across boundaries, and to travel frequently

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to articulate ideas clearly and succinctly. Knowledge of other languages (Arabic, French) a plus

• Ability to manage and complete multiple projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines under pressure

• Genuine and demonstrated interest in sustainable development and working in emerging markets
