The School of Chemistry & Physics brings together the University's broad-ranging world-renowned research in the fundamental disciplines of Chemistry and Physics. Research within the School receives substantial external funding and involves both national and international collaborations. The School is home to the Centre for the Subatomic Structure of Matter (CSSM), the Adelaide node of the Centre of Excellence in Particle Physics at the Terascale (CoEPP), and the Institute of Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS).
We seek to appoint a high calibre Theoretical Physicist to a four-year fixed-term position to compliment our areas of research strength which include high-energy physics, computational physics, nuclear physics, theoretical physics, atmospheric physics, high-energy astrophysics, medical physics and optics & photonics. Candidates with research expertise in the general areas of the Standard Model and physics beyond the Standard Model are particularly encouraged to apply.
Current interests in theoretical physics in the discipline include: low- and high-energy tests of the Standard Model; lattice QCD; chiral effective field theory; physics beyond the Standard Model including SUSY; dark matter and dark energy; collider physics and especially the analysis of LHC data as a guide to new physics; astro-particle physics; nuclear theory including the EOS of dense matter; and non-linear optics and microstructured fibres.
Applications for this teaching and research position are invited at the level of Lecturer (Level B). The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in research, teaching and student learning. In addition, they will have an outstanding research track record and will be expected to maintain an active research program. The successful candidate will also contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, the supervision of students, and assist with the administrative responsibilities of the School.
Position RequirementsYou should have:
  • a PhD (or equivalent) in Physics
  • enthusiasm and commitment to teaching and student learning
  • an outstanding research record in theoretical physics
  • the ability to maintain an active and innovative research program
  • the ability to supervise and motivate research students
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
Salary(Level B) $83,620 - $99,300
SuperannuationPlus an employer superannuation contribution of 17% applies.
Term of positionThis four-year fixed-term position is available from 1 January 2013.
