UNICEF Switzerland Child Protection Working Group Internship


An intern is required, to join a dynamic, globally based team supporting interagency work to strengthen child protection work in emergencies. This is an excellent opportunity to engage in high level interagency work which is shaping a relatively new sector in humanitarian response. The work will require close collaboration with colleagues, as well as liaison with a wide range of external partners. Timing: November 2012 to March 2013
Aim: To assist with the activities of the Child Protection Working Group coordination cell.
Description of Main Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the CPWG Coordinator, and in close cooperation with the CPWG coordination team:
• Research and produce Cluster Country profiles of baseline information in support of preparedness in emergency affected countries.
• Contribute to Level III preparedness of the CPWG, by undertaking research and producing a report on lessons learnt from Child Protection in disasters.
• Support with the analysis of CAPs (Consolidated Appeal Process), with particular attention to funding for Child Protection and Gender Marker scoring in Child Protection projects.
• Suggest and implement updates of the CPWG website, including Country specific information pages.
• Collect, compile and present updates on progress of CPWG projects undertaken by partners, in order to produce a quarterly newsletter.
• Assist with other ad-hoc tasks for the CPWG as necessary (attend meetings, take minutes etc.)
Required profile of candidate:
• University degree in related field and current enrolment in a Masters programme.
• Demonstrated experience or interest in Child Protection in Emergencies
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Well-developed skills in computer applications, including excel or basic database programmes
• Excellent written and communication skills in English and French.
• Very good organisational, analytical, planning and critical thinking skills.
