The Radio newsroom is a 24/7 operation, producing the news summaries for Radios 2, 3, 4, 6 Music and for local radio. It also produces News Briefing and the Sony award-winning 1800 bulletin on R4.  In addition, radio staff work on Newswire - the BBC's internal wire copy, actuality, copytasting service and on the audio summary service for News Online.

Role

Contract: roles offered on a continuing & attachment/contract basis

You'll produce the news summaries for Radios 2, 3, 4, 6 Music and local radio.  Newsroom staff also read the news on 6 Music and Radio Two so a strong broadcasting voice is desirable. You'll be able to work under pressure, using advanced broadcast technology in a 24 hour news operation and will be required to work in a multi-skilled way.
 
The job involves shifts across seven days a week; this includes night work. 

Requirements

 The successful candidates will be professional journalists with demonstrable commitment to BBC News. Good writing skills are essential, as is the potential to originate and develop programme stories and work well within a team. Ability to work fast, accurately and under pressure is essential.  You'll have a wide knowledge of domestic and international news as well as knowledge of the law and ethics as they apply to journalism. It is also important that you have a knowledge of production techniques and facilities in Radio and the ability to develop multi-media production skills.
You must have a thorough understanding of the editorial aims and policies of BBC News output and must be able to exercise an appropriate degree of editorial judgement and to take responsibility for any brief that might be assigned by a programme, newsroom or a newsgathering editor.
