Description The GSMA Corporate Business Development team is hiring a Business Analyst and will play a key role in assessing the marketplace and in projects driving long-term, profitable growth of the mobile industry or directly for the enterprise. The position will report to the Head of Corporate Business Development and support market prospecting, evaluation, proposals, and related department tasks including assisting with internal and external analysis and presentations. This position is part of a team responsible for all aspects of business development, including alignment with strategy, market analysis, pipeline and funnel management, deal sourcing, and deal execution. The business analyst will be expected to partner with adjacent business units and support the lead negotiator on any deal activity pertaining to our industry portfolio. Candidates for this position should have an ability to apply financial acumen to understand complex business scenarios and a willingness to assume responsibility for a broad range of evolving priorities. This position is also responsible for financial modeling, preparation of presentation and competitive analysis materials for senior management. Research and analysis conducted will focus on a broad range of diverse subjects and target markets and opportunities with mobile enablement as the centerpiece including industry conference events, digital media, joint-ventures and partnerships, brand licensing, trade associations, emerging business models, SWOT analysis, etc. The position is a unique opportunity to develop your strategic thinking, analytical skills and understanding of the mobile industry. Primary duties include: • Work with company management and program teams to prioritize new markets of interest and top prospects. • Prospect and evaluate opportunities related to the mobile industry. • Build financial models and business plans to support corporate initiatives. • Support deal execution teams from beginning to end, including managing due diligence and negotiations and working closely with management to formalize integration plans. • Support business development processes, including pipeline management and financial modeling. • Create materials for executive presentations. | ||
Context GSMA – OUR ROLE The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide. Spanning 219 countries, the GSMA unites nearly 800 of the world’s mobile operators, as well as more than 200 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset makers, software companies, equipment providers, Internet companies, and media and entertainment organisations. The GSMA also produces industry-leading events such as the Mobile World Congress and Mobile Asia Congress. In addition, the GSMA also embraces more than 200 major vendors, partners and suppliers to the industry as Associate Members. The GSMA is governed by a 25 member board, comprising CEO level representatives from many of the world's leading mobile operators, among them AT&T, Bharti Airtel, China Mobile, NTTDoCoMo, Orange, Telefonica, Telecom Italia-TIM, T-Mobile International and the Vodafone Group. The GSMA's work is focused on three areas: • Mobile Broadband - Development of a ubiquitous Mobile Broadband infrastructure and the proliferation of devices that will connect the world’s population to the Internet. • Mobile Lifestyle - Creation of innovative services and experiences that are delivered on the mobile infrastructure and unite the attributes of the web and communications world. • Mobile Planet - Leverage mobility to help enrich and improve the lives of individuals across the developing world, bringing services to these markets in a socially responsible manner. Additionally the GSMA is focused on the development of a range of managed services. These will provide an essential role in the development of the mobile value chain; examples include PathFinder, a number translation service or Mobile Media Metrics which will provide operators and advertisers with the key metrics in which to drive their businesses and data services. GSMA – OUR ORGANIZATION The GSMA was founded over twenty years ago and has grown into a global organisation with offices in London, Atlanta, Barcelona, Hong Kong, Brussels and Santiago. Our group includes those focused on developing industry initiatives, those developing managed services or events and those engaged to run a global knowledge based organisation. Our primary funding is driven through our membership and through the services we provide to the mobile value chain. Criteria Desired Skills & Experience: • 2-4 years of experience in the high-tech industry in consulting, strategy, product or portfolio management, corporate business development, or private equity (preferably with a mobile network operator). • 3-5 years business and financial modeling, scenario analysis, and presentation development • Prior business opportunity and financial modeling experience in support of a transactional, strategy, or investment role. • Excellent communication skills including preparation of complex information in simplified form. • Astute analytical and financial capabilities to develop financial models and market evaluations with minimal supervision. • Must be a team player with demonstrated experience working cross-functionally in a collaborative manner. • Ability to be successful in an unstructured team environment and work independently with minimum supervision. • Earn the confidence of others through open communication and respectful behavior. • Continuous self-development of business knowledge, subject matter expertise and understanding of the mobile and high tech industries. • Strong Internet research, MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills. • BA/BS degree, MBA preferred. • Experience in mobile is strongly preferred. Develop & maintain an outside-in perspective on various aspects of the GSMA and the mobile industry: • Construct business cases that clearly summarize business drivers and assumptions. • Build business and financial support models to track success and progress against original plan goals. • Develop opportunity proposals for internal executive review. • Participate in due diligence execution on target opportunities. • Suggest deal structure and terms including assumptions and analysis of pros/cons for each model. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the following abilities: • Interpersonal: Must have good interpersonal skills • Self-Sufficient: Able to work independently and have effective time management skills. Must be able to prioritize daily, weekly and monthly tasks and possess a “sense of urgency” to ensure deadlines are met. • Analytical: Superior critical thinking skills with the ability to research and analyze data from multiple sources.
