The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organisation committed to advancing security of energy supply, economic growth and environmental sustainability through energy policy co-operation.  The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the framework of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.  Both the OECD and the IEA seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-members of growing importance to the world economy. 
 
The IEA seeks energy analysts to contribute to analysis of long-term regional and sectoral energy trends and their consequences. The main output is the annual World Energy Outlook. This has gained a reputation as the most authoritative source for energy analysis and projections. Each year it provides a quantitative outlook for energy supply and demand in the medium term and longer-term and draws lessons for energy security, investment and the environment.

The chosen candidates will be part of a team of enthusiastic professionals reporting to the Chief Economist.
 
Main Responsibilities
1.     Energy Analysis
 
Participate in the work on the long-term analysis of regional and sectoral energy trends to meet the needs and priorities agreed by Member countries. This will involve:
 
Participate in the preparation of medium and long term global energy demand and supply outlooks using methods including economic modeling, scenario development and technology assessment as appropriate.
 
Contribute to develop, maintain and improve the Agency’s energy modelling capability. Assume responsibility for various sub-modules (e.g. regional, fuel type, transport sector, etc.) of its energy models.
 
Design and undertake quantitative and qualitative analysis of topical issues confronting the energy sector for inclusion in the World Energy Outlook or stand-alone papers.
 
Contribute to the management of databases on economic and energy indicators.
 
Assist with project management as appropriate.
 
Support the broader activities of the IEA through analytical, written and verbal contributions on all aspects of energy trend scenarios.
 
2.     Liaison and Outreach
 
Collaborate with other Directorates in the Agency, the OECD and other national and international organisations, the energy industry and research bodies in the analysis of the impact of energy market developments on the macro-economies of Member and non-Member countries.
 
Participate in preparations for meetings of IEA standing committees, working parties and other groups as required; participate in relevant meetings of other international organisations; provide support for the development of reports, analyses and information items for these meetings.
 
Maintain contacts with members of national delegations, other international organisations, representatives of industry, and other institutions involved in energy market assessments.
 
Promote the work of the Agency externally to a wide range of audiences through organising and participating in workshops, making presentations and holding bi-lateral meetings
 
 
Candidate’s profile
Academic Background
·         An advanced university degree(s) in a relevant discipline (e.g. economics, engineering, mathematics, statistics), preferably with a quantitative energy specialisation.
 
Professional Background
·         Three to seven years’ experience  in applied economic analysis, preferably within an energy context.  Good understanding of the micro-economics of end-user prices and the impact of distortions.
 
·         Excellent understanding of the energy sector (production of energy, transformation, end-uses, energy policy) and its history. 
 
·         Knowledge of energy models for the different energy sectors, identification of various price setting mechanisms and inter-fuel competition.
 
·         Excellent level of computer literacy, including the use of large scale computer data bases
 
Languages
·         An excellent written and oral command of English.
·         Knowledge of other languages would be an asset.

Contract Duration
Ranging from 1 – 3 year fixed term, with the possibility of renewal.
 
What the OECD offers Monthly base salary starting from 5 439.27 € net of French taxes plus allowances based on eligibility.
