Post-Doctoral Associate - Urban & Industrial Systems - Yale University - School Of Forestry & Environmental Studies
We seek a post doctoral associate for a 3-year position to work on high impact international research on sustainable cities conducting coupled water, energy and material footprints and assessing industrial symbiosis in an urban context.
Prof. Marian Chertow of the Yale Center for Industrial Ecology is a principal investigator (P.I.) on a newly-funded $4.5 million US National Science Foundation (NSF) grant: "Developing Low-Carbon Cities in the USA, China & India through Interdisciplinary Integration across Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences & Public Health" through NSF's Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) program. The Lead P.I. is Prof. Anu Ramaswami from the University of Minnesota and the other participating U.S. institutions are the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Colorado undefined Denver, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and the National Academy of Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated capacity for quantitative and analytic work in inter-disciplinary study of Urban and Industrial Systems.
A PhD in Industrial Ecology, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies, Public Policy or a related field.
Experience with environmental and energy footprinting; industrial symbiosis; data management; Microsoft Office.
Excellent research skills, oral and written communication, and a professional work ethic
Demonstrated teamwork and team leadership skills
Evidence of scholarship in journal publications, conference presentations
Some knowledge of Chinese or Indian languages with complete fluency in English
Responsibilities
Participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of research on urban sustainability with research teams in India, China, and the U.S.
Lead team projects and supervise masters' students on- the- ground primarily in Indian and Chinese cities (50-60% of time)
Collect and analyze quantitative and analytic data of coupled water, energy and material flows as well as of industry potential to exchange these resources
Participate in preparing and presenting data to investigators and others
Collaborate on preparing reports and conference papers, developing new proposals, and publishing in research journals
Teach graduate students core skills relevant to learning how to conduct the research needed for this project at summer training schools in the participating countries.
