Root Capital International HR Manager


Summary

Root Capital seeks an International Human Resources Manager to help make Root Capital (RC) a great place to work and to support its growth and development. The International HR Manager will be responsible for effective oversight of international HR functions and maintaining continuity of organizational HR practices in Root Capital field offices currently in Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica and Kenya. Working closely with the Regional Vice Presidents, s(he) will support and develop field-based HR staff, enabling their growth, autonomy and increased capacity, and providing training and on-going support for international HR functions. This position will work closely with other members of the HR team in Cambridge and will be the primary liaison to the field offices. His/her work will reflect and promote the organization's belief that a well-supported, well-managed, motivated and engaged staff embodies RC's values and will be the most effective in achieving RC's mission.

Responsibilities
1. Oversee the management and coordination of all aspects of international HR, including:
  • Development and implementation of country-specific policies and procedures
  • Ensure country-specific HR responsibilities are represented in new office start ups
  • Provide key information and participate in developing organizational strategy to address international HR needs
  • Improve processes for developing an international candidate pipeline.
2. Advise and coach field office staff on Human Resource matters:
  • In partnership with Regional VPs and field managers, adapt Root Capital compensation, benefits, employee development and retention strategies that are balanced across all offices while allowing country offices to attract and retain the best talent
  • Support field offices with the development and maintenance of HR tools such as guidelines, checklists, and policy & procedure templates to streamline HR processes and to ensure that compliant HR practices are implemented for all categories of personnel
  • Working closely with the Director of Legal Resources and Compliance and the Director of Human Resources, develop a clear understanding of country specific labor laws and create handbooks and employment contracts that are compliant with local law, Root Capital policies, and applicable US policies
  • Support field office staff in the recruitment process, including
  • Support and guide field-based on-boarding processes
  • Support field managers in the development, training and retention of staff
  • Help to ensure international employee transitions are handled professionally, sensitively, in compliance with applicable labor laws, and are properly documented.
3. Serve as a key member of the Human Resources team:
  • Participate in development of organization-wide initiatives and needs
  • Collaborate on the development of HR activities, policies, strategy and annual departmental goals, with particular focus on international applications
  • Participate in planning annual HR Summit and associated logistics.
4. Ensure continuity of culture, policy and HR programs across all Root Capital international offices:
  • Support field HR staff to ensure all field HR functions and processes are handled in a manner consistent with Root Capital policy and culture
  • Establish, maintain and support field staff connections to and continuity with Cambridge office
  • Answer all human resources questions and inquiries from field staff; make referrals to other human resources team members when helpful or required.
5. Other activities as specified by the Vice President of Finance and Administration.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required. Masters in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field and/or HR Certifications preferred.
  • 7+ years related experience as HR professional, with minimum 5 years of international HR management experience in a multi-national/multi-cultural organization preferably in a non-profit environment, with extensive experience working and building relationships with staff in international offices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills in English and Spanish. French language a plus.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and intercultural skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels and cultures; experience living and working in developing countries is preferred.
  • Superior organizational, planning and analytical skills with attention to detail, demonstrated sound judgment, and ability to manage simultaneous priorities independently under tight deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability for occasional travel to developing countries.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office) and familiarity with HRIS systems.
  • Strong sense of humor and collaborative teamwork approach.
  • Proactive, service-oriented attitude.
