1. Topic: Consultancy services - To Produce a Total of (5,000 units) of the Speaking Book on Immunization in Amharic and Oromifa Languages and deliver to UNICEF Ethiopia.
2. Background.
Immunization is one of the most cost-effective public health interventions for reducing childhood illness and death. Some barriers to completing routine immunization include lack of information, unknown time and place of services, fear of side effects, lack of education and negative consequences of poor interpersonal communication from health workers to mothers.
To support the necessary behavioral changes for timely and complete routine immunization, and increased community uptake and demand for immunization, a variety of communication approaches and tools must be applied at the community level. To this effect, Speaking Books have revolutionized health communication for people who cannot read.
Speaking Books utilize text, sound and image to support creative health education and serve as a vehicle to support two-way dialogue between the health worker and caretaker. Speaking Books combine the latest sound chip technology featuring sound tracks read by a narrator in local languages, and supported by pictures so that visual and verbal communication are combined so audiences understand the messages well. There are 16 pages containing 16 messages in the book. The messages aim to support doable actions for timely and complete maternal and childhood immunization. The messages address the ‘who,’ ‘what,’ ‘where,’ ‘when,’ ‘why,’ and ‘how’ for each action/message.
