Counterpart International Cybersecurity Specialist


Counterpart International is seeking a Cybersecurity Specialist for an “Internet Freedom” ICT project focused on supporting civil society organizations, human rights activists, and independent media in developing countries worldwide. The Cybersecurity Specialist will provide dedicated support and mentoring to Latin American organizations to help them address their information security needs. Applicants should have a strong technical background in information technology and a firm understanding of internet security issues, including familiarity with methods of encryption of data during storage and transmission, circumvention of cyber-censorship, patch management, and secure web hosting. This is a full time position, and the ideal candidate will be based in the Latin American region. This position will report to the ISC, Deputy Chief of Party.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Travel up to 50% to work with partners in targeted countries and provide assessments, technical leadership and guidance on information security. •Develop action plans to address information security issues of local civil society and technology partners. •Ensure partners learn, internalize, use, and propagate appropriate information security practices. •Provide training to local counterparts in Latin America region on information security and potential uses of new technologies. •Stay-up-to-date on new technologies and emerging trends and issues related to information security. •Participate in conferences, trainings, and other events as needed. •Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: •BS/BA and 9-11 years relevant experience, or MS/MA and 7-9 years relevant experience •At least 3-5 years’ experience in information security •Fluent in Spanish and English required •Located in the Western Hemisphere (Latin America preferred, though not required) •Solid understanding of internet’s building blocks (DNS, SSL, IP, etc.) •Strong interpersonal skills as well as experience developing solid professional relationships •Broad training experience •Willingness to travel •Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple activities
