Management System Specialist AngloGold Ashanti


AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents. AGA employs over 62,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA owns the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine, near Laverton,  and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine, 330 kilometres east-northeast of Kalgoorlie, in which it has a 70% interest and is manager. Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%.
We are now seeking an experienced Management System Specialist to join our Sustainability Team at the Tropicana Gold Mine. This role will be initially a combination of site and Perth office based work with the intention to move to a full time 4/3 FIFO roster in 2013.
Accountable to the Manager: Approvals/Compliance/Sustainability, this role is responsible for assisting the Tropicana Gold Mine by ensuring that the site's business processes integrates all aspects including, production, safety, environment, compliance, health, quality and community to ensure that the site has a systematic approach to achieving AGAA's overall business objectives.
The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Facilitation of Business Process Mapping workshops and process description documents
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the Tropicana Gold Mine "ONE" management system
  • Document creation, implementation and control
  • Support the Management Team achieving ISO and OHSAH accreditation for the Tropicana Gold Mine
  • Participating in the site assurance process to measure and report compliance to corporate and statutory standards
  • Work with the various site and regional Departments in identifying and delivering training in management systems
  • Undertake assurance activities to ensure the Tropicana Gold Mine "ONE" management system objectives are being met.
  • As a member of the Sustainability Department with knowledge, skills and competency relating to safety and environmental management within a mining operation, this role will support the Senior Safety/Risk and Environment Compliance Coordinators where required due to rotating shifts.
  • Participate in investigations into significant safety, environmental and quality management related incidents, incorporating the findings into corrective actions to prevent recurrence of the incident.
  • As a member of the Sustainability Department with knowledge, skills and competency relating to emergency response within a mining operation, this role will support the Emergency Response and TGM Management Team in responding to emergencies. First responder, ERT support member or external agencies communications officer are roles that this position could undertake.
 The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Tertiary qualified in a discipline that engages quality management systems and principles.
  • At least 5 years management systems experience within mining or similar industries.
  • Sound knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO14001, and OSHAS18001 requirements, statutory occupational health, safety and environmental requirements and be able to provide competent advice to TGM personnel on these requirements.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to initiate, plan and implement projects, utilising software packages (MS Project or similar) and having the capacity to successfully engage, motivate and lead project personnel.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills that will be used in the development of operational procedures and processes and their implementation through effective training. Capable of implementing, managing and maintaining software relevant to the position and effectively utilising it to develop and generate reports for use by TGM Managers and personnel.
  • Established business acumen, leadership skills, and experience within supervisory positions to be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence the behaviour of others in a manner that achieves the required corporate and statutory compliance outcomes.
