The Bank of England is the central bank of the United Kingdom. Standing at the centre of the UK's financial system, the Bank exists to ensure monetary stability and to contribute to financial stability.
The Bank's Agents contribute to this work by assessing business contributions through talking to businesses and other organisations, reporting what they learn to the Bank's policy makers.
A vacancy has arisen in the North East of England for a Deputy Agent.
The main tasks of the role are:
  • meeting business people, usually at Chief Executive or Finance Director level, to learn about business conditions and focusing on the policy issues of greatest relevance to the Monetary Policy Committee. This represents around 80% of the role and involves driving around the region.
  • drawing out economic intelligence from the meetings with businesses and presenting that in written reports
  • presenting current Bank policy and economic information to businesses and others in the region, both during meetings with businesses and through public speaking engagements.
  • providing technical support for analytical work carried out by the Agency network across the UK.
  • helping organise, and participating in, visits by the Governor and other members of the Monetary Policy Committee, and other senior Bank policymakers, to the North East of England.
  • sharing in management of the small agency team of two support staff and playing a broader role in assisting the Agent to manage the work and outputs of the Agency.
Essential:
  • A good understanding of economics and an interest in business
  • Good drafting skills and an ability to report information in a clear and concise way
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to work autonomously and as part of a small team
  • Full driving licence
Desirable:
  • Experience in establishing and building working relationships with businesses
  • A knowledge of the economy of the North East
  • Staff management experience
