Civil Engineer for Highway Design (Richmond, VA)

The Richmond, VA, office of The Louis Berger Group, Inc. is seeking an enthusiastic and detail oriented Civil Engineer (Transportation) with 3 to 7 years of experience for full time employment.  The Richmond, VA, office primarily serves clients and projects throughout the state and the adjoining region. Successful candidates will design and manage certain aspects of transportation projects for state and local governments, including the development of construction plans, , cost estimates, bid documents, various calculations, and quantity takeoffs. 
Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be required to complete design assignments under the supervision and direction of senior engineering staff.  Candidates will be expected to complete work with moderate to minimal direction from managers.  Occasional field work and site visits will be expected as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
·         Minimum B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required and3 to 7 years of experience. 
·         Licensure as a Professional Engineer or ability to receive professional licenses within 1 year of employment is required, VA or surrounding states license preferred.
·         Experience with developing roadway designs for VDOT is required.
·         Experience using VDOT, AASHTO, and MUTCD specifications and standards 
·         Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Preferred Qualifications
  • MicroStation V8i, ARCGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D,   GEOPAK Road, Microsoft Office software.
·         Experience with other regional agencies a plus. 
·         Experience with VDOT project workflow from preliminary engineering to final design.
·         Prefer knowledge of  GRIT  software
Because Louis Berger has offices nationwide, it is preferred that the successful candidate be willing to participate on projects in one of the other office or project locations away from the home office site for brief periods when required. 
Special Requirements
A valid state driver’s license or the ability to obtain the license within 1 month of hire is required.  A driver’s license records check and a criminal history records check are also required.  Successful candidates may be required to travel as needed.
