Consultancy - Religion and Security: Challenges, lessons and advantages of working as faith-based or as secular organisations

About EISF
The European Interagency Security Forum (EISF) is an independent, member-led security network of European-based NGOs, which exists to share best practice, provide peer support and produce practical research for security risk management in the humanitarian sector. EISF is committed to improving the safety and security of relief operations and staff, by strengthening risk management in a way that allows greater access to, and impact for, crisis-affected populations.
EISF Vision
EISF's vision is to become a global reference point for applied practice, collective knowledge and current challenges in security management for humanitarian agencies. The European Interagency Security Forum invites interested candidates to submit their Expression of Interest for an upcoming project on Religion and Security by the 8th May, 2013.
About the project
Although faith-based organisations share many characteristics with their secular counterparts and are influenced by the same political, social and economic contexts, there are aspects of faith-based and secular organisations’ motivations, affiliations and governance which set them apart from one another. These factors will affect an organisation’s profile and, in terms of security, their vulnerabilities and strengths in different contexts. It will also impact on how the organisation is perceived by beneficiaries and other stakeholders and will therefore affect their acceptance, access and security.
EISF’s Members have identified the potential benefit of a best practice briefing paper on the challenges, lessons and advantages experienced by faith-based and by secular organisations.
