This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to work with ODI’s Social Development team and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), of which ODI is a founding partner. CDKN is a five-year initiative funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) to assist developing countries respond to the challenges posed by climate change. You will also work closely with ODI’s Climate and Environment Programme (CEP).
We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to develop, fundraise for, conduct and manage high-quality and innovative research on gender, social exclusion and climate change, particularly with regard to climate finance. You will investigate the significant intersection between climate change and core development sectors such as agriculture, urban life and population growth, and the critical perspective and actions related to gender and social development in each of these areas.
About the job: Responsibilities of the role include: • research and policy advisory work: conducting high-quality, innovative research on gender, climate change and climate finance • fundraising: attracting funds through bids and marketing, including the development of a substantial personal research portfolio • public affairs: disseminating and promoting ODI’s work and ideas on climate change • project management: implementation and administrative and financial management of research, advisory and public affairs projects.
Above all, you have a passionate commitment to climate change and social development, backed by in-depth experience and skills. You have:
• substantive knowledge of key issues and organisations in international development, and specifically in relation to gender, social exclusion and climate change • extensive developing-country experience; • experience in policy-orientated research, demonstrated by a track record of publications and reports • demonstrated capacity for policy advisory or public-affairs work, based on an analytical approach, and innovative and creative communications skills; • proven ability to translate research ideas into fundable projects • skills in negotiation, listening, communication of ideas, problem-solving, decision-making.
