Description:	We are seeking a dynamic, experienced and resourceful Principal Research Assistant to work in the Global Conservation Agriculture Program. The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT®, is a not-for-profit research and training organization with partners in over 100 countries. Please refer to our website for more information:www.cimmyt.org The position will be based at CIMMYT’s Station in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, located in Calle Dr. Norman Borlaug, Km. 12, Valle del Yaqui, Cd. Obregón, Sonora, México. The main responsibilities of this position will be: Process multispectral images and thermal remote sensing obtained from cameras to map stress patterns of vegetation using various software such as FIJI app, FWTools, ArcGis and QuantumGIS. Develop automatic segmentation methods mosaics and multispectral thermal generation indicators for vegetation stress through spatial interpolation, using QuantumGIS and GRASS software. Develop JAVA plugin for automating image processing. Create mosaics from images obtained from aerial vehicles using GPS data and guidance systems. Perform ortho-rectification mosaic of individual images, obtained through aerial platforms and create KMZs from flight results, using ArcGIS and Kosmo. Convert between different image formats, and perform spatial resolution using DAL scripts through DAL, FWTools and GDAL databases. Develop plugins in Python, ortho-rectification of images in different coordinate systems, as well as analysis of SHP, and interpolations and vectorial grids through the use of QuantumGIS study. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. We are seeking candidates with the following qualification, skills and attitudes: Bachelor or Engineering degree in Information Systems or any other related field is required. Extensive experience in handling GIS applications, including ArcGIS, Kosmo. QuantumGIS and GRASS. Have good understanding of MYSQL databases. Manage web development languages for obtaining data with AJAX / JQUERY. Manage web development languages in client / server with PHP. Have good understanding of PHP, SQL and AJAX web viewers to generation. Advanced level English. The candidate needs to have high capacity for teamwork, responsibility, initiative and order. It is necessary to have full time availability and to live in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora. CIMMYT offers an attractive remuneration package and support for continuous professional development.
