Organizational Setting |
The Department of Management (MT) provides a 'platform of services' that serves as a foundation for the successful delivery of the IAEA's scientific and technical programmes. Its mission statement is as follows: "MT is a partner and a business enabler that champions change and efficiency, leveraging a common purpose". Thus, among other support activities, it assists a scientific manager in recruiting the right expert, helps a technical officer coordinate the purchase of radiation equipment, works with the press to help clarify the technically complex work of the IAEA, and ensures that all Board documents are translated and distributed on a timely basis to Member States. The Division of General Services provides service functions throughout the IAEA such as travel and transport support, facilities management, archives and records management, and management of the VIC Commissary. It has five sections. The Facilities Management Section provides technical advice and has overall responsibility for the implementation of major facilities management specific projects and administrative services for all IAEA premises. This includes providing technical services for IAEA meetings and conferences in the Vienna International Centre (VIC) and the Austria Center Vienna, including set-up and operation of worldwide video conferences and video job interviews for the IAEA. |
Main purpose |
The Unit Head coordinates the project activities of the Section. He/she prepares design proposals, technical specifications, drawings, cost estimates and bills of quantities for IAEA building and construction related projects. He/she prepares cost-effective planned preventive maintenance programmes for building elements and services. In addition, he/she supervises the Technical Support Services Group, and administers technical service contracts, and updates facilities management data for the IAEA's offices, including those outside the Vienna International Centre (VIC) headquarters. |
Role |
The Unit Head is: 1) a liaison with building operatives on the supervision and monitoring of works and services relating to upgrading, alterations and technical installation; 2) a specialist, translating client requirements into technical specifications for UNIDO/Buildings Management Services (BMS) or external contractors; 3) an analyst, monitoring minor repairs and work orders and providing recommendations on a wide range of technical and facilities management issues; 4) a coordinator of the activities of the Technical Support Services Group. |
Partnerships |
The Unit Head is in constant liaison with clients to identify relevant technical requirements for the VIC headquarters as well as for the IAEA's Regional Offices in Toronto and Tokyo and its laboratory sites in Monaco and Seibersdorf. He/she coordinates with UNIDO/BMS technicians regarding the implementation and supervision of IAEA work order requests. In addition, he/she keeps clients informed of progress on work order requests for projects and maintenance programmes. |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $46 730 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $25 374*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave,pension plan and health insurance.
