We are looking for a Research Fellow with world class knowledge to lead one or more themes within the Humanitarian Policy Group’s research strategy and policy areas as set out by HPG’s Integrated Programme.

Our Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG) is one of the world’s leading teams of independent researchers and information professionals working on humanitarian issues. It is dedicated to improving humanitarian policy and practice through a combination of high-quality analysis, dialogue and debate.

Recent highlights include: 

• Sanctuary in the city? Urban displacement and vulnerability in the Gaza Strip (December 12)

• Talking to the other side: humanitarian engagement with the Taliban in Afghanistan (December 12)

• New players through old lenses: Why history matters in engaging with Southern actors (July 12)

• Avoiding reality: Land, institutions and humanitarian action in post-earthquake Haiti (September 12)

You will join a dynamic team, and will support the Head of HPG in strategy development, fundraising, research and public affairs, helping to drive a multidisciplinary and innovative programme.

About the job: 

• Research and policy advisory work: conducting high-quality applied research

• Fundraising: attracting funds through bids and marketing, including the development of a substantial personal research portfolio; and

• Public affairs: disseminating and promoting the programme’s work and ideas.

About you

You will have:


• extensive and deep knowledge of key humanitarian issues and organisations and current policy debates

• experience in policy-orientated research, demonstrated by a track record of publications and reports; • strong analytical skills, a capacity to write clearly and excellent organisational and communication skills;

• a strong publication record;

• demonstrated ability to win work and attract funds;

• the ability to work as part of a team and support the Head of HPG in people and project management.
