Background / General description:

IFC finances private sector investments, mobilizes capital in the international financial markets, helps clients improve social and environmental sustainability, and provides technical assistance and advice to governments and businesses in the developing world.

IFC is seeking to hire a Senior Financial Specialist to work in its country office in Mumbai, India to support housing finance team’s investment activities broadly in the Asia region. The position will report to the Global Sector Lead for Housing Finance in Washington, DC. Frequent travel will be required to meet the objectives of the assignment.
Duties and Accountabilities:
The financial specialist will:

• Serve as the region’s expert of the housing finance sector for all investment transactions;

• Be a key member of the team for the region in growing the housing finance investment portfolio in the region;

• Source potential housing finance transactions by identifying and developing new business opportunities and closing of housing finance investment transactions;

• Build a strong pipeline of good quality housing finance investment opportunities through anticipating market trends and employing sector/country knowledge;

• Applying sector knowledge in support of the appraisal, structuring, negotiation and processing of housing finance investment transactions;

• Review, analyze and monitor the financial and operating performance of housing finance clients;

• Actively support knowledge sharing and building of housing finance expertise in IFC.

• Maintain a thorough understanding of housing finance markets in Asia, provide market intelligence and develop strong business network;

• Actively contribute to housing finance strategy formulation and pipeline planning in the region.

• Ensure close integration and coordination with IFC’s housing finance advisory services and the World Bank in the region for the sector.
Selection Criteria:
• Masters degree in finance and business from an institution of high standing;

• 8+ years of experience in the housing finance or real estate related business;

• Demonstrated expertise in a variety of housing finance related disciplines including mortgage finance and capital markets as related to housing finance;

• Knowledge of international housing finance markets and financial institutions especially in Asia;

• Demonstrated experience and track record in business development, structuring transactions, negotiations and portfolio evaluation;

• Strong business development and client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on clients needs effectively;

• Strong financial analysis and credit skills; demonstrated ability to structure a variety of complex financial instruments (debt, quasi equity and equity);

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of potential clients, financial and technical partners, and government officials, and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds;

• High professional integrity. Highly motivated, committed to highest ethical standards;

• Ability to think independently, analyze problems and identify appropriate solutions;

• High degree of initiative, flexibility, reliability, discretion and willingness to learn;

• Self-starter with excellent organizational, administrative and time management skills with proven ability to work promptly and efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines;

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English a must. Ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently;
