The Transport Systems Catapult is one of a network of elite technology and innovation centres being established by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) in close consultation with industry. This follows the Government’s support for the Hauser and Dyson reports which recommended investment in the creation of such organisations, and the announcement of a transport catapult in the 2012 Budget.
The Catapult’s core purpose is to play a transformational and enduring role in technology and innovation, to create a transport systems industry, with a commercial cost and risk profile that meets Government and investor aspirations. It will provide a Centre of Excellence which is globally recognised as the first place to find expertise when exploiting opportunities or managing risk in a transport systems environment.
The Catapult’s mission is to help UK businesses to create products and services that meet the needs of the world’s transport systems as they respond to ever-stretching demands, selling UK capability on the global stage, whilst using the UK as a test bed.
The Catapult will achieve its objectives by leading world class development and demonstration projects, and by being a forum for innovation, an autonomous research and development organisation, providing neutral space which fosters collaboration with a core team.
To ensure the success of the Transport Systems Catapult, we require a dynamic, world-class leader who will bring an incontestable record of achievement in strategic co-ordination and facilitation of innovative commercial applications at the research-commercial interface. You will need proven ability to spot new opportunities and to be able to shape and build an environment where academia, innovators and industry work effectively together to drive and exploit innovation that results in realisation of greater value. You will have been pivotal to the delivery of bold visions on the largest scale, using your highly developed political, commercial and communication skills to align support whilst commanding respect and commitment at all levels.
