Entry-Level Civil Engineer for Highway Design (Richmond,VA)

The Richmond, VA, office of The Louis Berger Group, Inc. is seeking an enthusiastic and detail oriented entry level Civil Engineer (Transportation) for full time employment.  The Richmond, VA, office primarily serves clients and projects throughout the state and the adjoining region. Successful candidates will assist with aspects of the design of transportation projects for state and local governments.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will work and complete assignments under the supervision and direction of engineering staff, assisting in producing various aspects of transportation plans, including engineering calculations, computer aided drafting and design, and coordination with team members.  Intermittent field and site visits/work will be required.

Minimum Qualifications

·         Minimum B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required and up to 2 years of experience. 

·         Certification as an Engineer-In-Training by successful completion of fundamentals of engineering exam is preferred, or be able to sit for the exam within a year of employment. 

·         Coursework/experience in transportation, geometric design of highways, traffic engineering, construction cost estimating, hydraulics, hydrology, and civil engineering materials is required.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

·         Microstation, GEOPAK, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office experience is a plus. 

·         Recent graduates with internships, co-op, or previous employment related to the heavy/highway industry or engineering industry are preferred.

·         Experience/interest in drainage design

·         Prefer knowledge of  GRIT software

Special Requirements

A valid state driver’s license or the ability to obtain the license within 1 month of hire is required.  A driver’s license records check, criminal history records check, and a fingerprint check are required.  Successful candidates may be required to travel as needed.
