The role

We are currently seeking a talented Graduate Civil Engineer to commence at SMEC's Melbourne office in early 2014.
Under the direction of a Designated Principal or Senior Engineer, the graduate engineer is responsible for the provision of engineering services in areas that may include: engineering design, detailing, documentation, proposal preparation, field investigation, data collation, analysis and reporting.  The position will also develop skills in project management, co-ordination, communication with contractors, suppliers and other industry personnel, expediting, scheduling, cost control and marketing SMEC's services to clients.
Key accountabilities will include:
Apply professional standards to construction, investigative and major design projects under the supervision of more senior engineers by:
·  Carrying out detailed design and documentation under supervision
·  Contributing  to the delivery of projects within time and budget
·  Liaising with the Supervisor and designated draftspersons on issues relating to the designated tasks and the delivery of designated work on packages and projects
·  Assisting in preparation of specifications, proposals, and other documents under supervision
·  Assisting with geotechnical investigations to assess structure foundations, and materials for construction of structures such as dams and levees.
Suitable applicants will have the following attributes:
  • Tertiary qualified (Civil Engineering)
  • Commitment to progress professional accreditation such as CPEng
  • Previous work experience in an Engineering Consulting organisation (would be an advantage)
  • Sound knowledge of relevant computer packages MS Office, AutoCAD etc
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Team player
