ActionAid
 in the Netherlands works together with partners in Africa to end poverty and injustice by promoting fair and sustainable use of the continent’s natural resources. As policies in the Netherlands and Europe exert influence on developments in Africa, campaigning and advocacy are an important ingredient of ActionAid’s work. ActionAid is also actively involved in alliances and networks in Africa in the area of natural resources/extractives and women’s land rights. ActionAid is a member of the global ActionAid International Federation, currently consisting of 43 members in as many countries.
ActionAid is looking for a: Head of Programmes and Partnership Development (36hrs)
In this role you will manage a team of 3.5 staff and a portfolio of over 2 million euro annually, principally from the Dutch Government and EC. You will also identify and pursue opportunities for larger institutional funding. You will be responsible to the Executive Director. The position is based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Core Responsibilities
• Strategic management of portfolio of existing programmes, including funding from the MFSII funding streams of the Dutch Government and the EC
• Identifying and pursuing institutional funding opportunities (Governments/EC and other large institutions), including management of proposal development and funding submissions
• Management of partner relations with partners in Africa and internationally as well as with other programme-related external stakeholders
• Monitoring the development sector as it relates to the work of ActionAid
• Managing relevant planning, reporting and reflection processes
• Serving as a member of the Management Team and advising the Executive Director
• Serving as main liaison to ActionAid International on matters related to programmes and institutional funding
Particular Skills/Qualities
• University degree, ideally in a relevant field
• At least 6 years of demonstrable leadership and management experience in a development context. Experience working in a network environment is an advantage.
• Excellent understanding of development issues (especially related to Africa). Themes of particular relevance are inequities related to natural resource governance (esp. land use and mining), human rights based approaches, gender justice, and participatory research and programming
• A thorough understanding of the current Dutch policy debate
• A strategic thinker, with the proven ability to  translate this into concrete steps to advance ActionAid’s strategy and plans (including fundraising proposals to institutional donors, capacity development and improvements to systems and ways of working)
• Excellent communications skills in English and Dutch (written and oral)
• Diplomacy and cross-cultural sensitivity
Our offer
The contract is for 36 hours a week starting as soon as possible (preferably before 1 June). The appointment is for one year with the option for extension and comes with a maximum salary of €4.167 depending on experience.
