The role

We are currently seeking a talented Principal Maritime Engineer to work closely with our Ports and Maritime team in Perth.
With a minimum of 15 years commercial experience in details, you will play a key role in:
  • BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING: Developing the SMEC Australia Brand in the Western Australian market as a top-class, high quality, specialist provider of Port and Marine services.
  • TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP: Lead and undertake structural analysis for design projects with maritime structures. Direct professional staff and review work undertaken at SMEC for technical soundness. Undertake mentoring and training of junior staff on project work, prepare and present in-house seminars, etc.
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Manage complex, multi-disciplinary commercial projects in maritime and port engineering. Monitor financial and technical aspects of projects and provide regular financial and progress reports, while ensuring projects are completed on time.
With a track record of achievement in a similar role, you will have gained your experience in an engineering design consultancy and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work.
Suitable applicants will have/be:
  • 15 years professional experience with demonstrated knowledge and experience in maritime and port engineering in the structural area.
  • Good working knowledge of Project Management and QA procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and superior report-writing competencies.
  • Proven capability in managing a team of multidisciplinary technical specialists.
  • Undergraduate degree qualifications in civil and/or structural engineering. Specialist post-graduate qualifications in structural and maritime civil engineering will be advantageous.
