Description
The Principal Engineers role is key to the structure and performance of the engineering team. All of the above competencies will be employed in the provision and successful delivery of a range of engineering services, to external and internal customers, in all business sectors including commercial, industrial, retail, healthcare, education, defence, leisure etc. within both public and private domains.
These services will include all aspects of an M&E technical consultant role e.g;
  • Feasibility and viability assessments
  • Conceptual and detailed design
  • Performance and Employers requirements specification
  • Contribute to project implementation and estimation resource requirements
  • Report writing to a variety of clients
  • Carrying out calculations
  • Budget cost estimation
  • Internal project management
  • Cost and finance control
  • Resource prediction, control and management
  • Site installation and commissioning supervision
  • Meeting attendance and chairing (both internal and external)
  • Mentoring of junior employees
  • Business development via good customer relations
  • Interviewing of potential new employees
  • Checking and approving the work of junior employees
  • Managing the workload and project delivery of junior staff
  • Quality control and document management in line with WYG policies and schemes
  • Demonstrate an innovative approach to design

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Setting and reviewing objectives, targets and performance of a small team
  • Management of relationships with key customers, suppliers and contacts relevant to team
  • Providing professional advice and support across the business
  • Monitors and ensures compliance and KPI’s
  • Day-to-day supervision / line management of team / department
  • Management of projects within time, cost and quality constraints and standards 
  • Estimating, pricing and delivering against work targets
  • Client liaison
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Degree in Building Services Engineering [or equivalent experience]                       
  • Chartered Engineer
  • Membership of appropriate body e.g. CIBSE, ASHRAE etc
  • Demonstrable CPD record                                              
  • Full driving licence
  • CSCS Card
  • Indepth experience in the building services profession, excluding education
  • In-depth experience in the survey, design and implementation of mechanical and electrical building services schemes and installations
  • Demonstrable experience of working on a variety of type and size of project across all business sectors and the provision of various duties.
  • Experience of energy conservation, sustainability and renewable technologies
  • Interpretation of customer requirements and preparation   of concept and detail design drawings and calculations to meet the needs of both internal and external clients
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of regulations, legislation, codes of practice and current design standards applicable to mechanical building services installations
  • Demonstrable track record in the successful delivery of major projects with a high technical content.
  • Preferable experience gained when employed by major consultancies of a multi-disciplinary nature.
  • Preferable considerable term of experience gained in the local marketplace.
  • Experience of working with key architects and other design team professionals.
  • Working knowledge of CDM Regulations and requirements on designers

Advanced understanding of;
  • issues related to buildings and sustainability in the UK building environment,
  • building regulations Part L, planning issues and other legislative requirements,
  • renewable energy, micro generation, and energy efficiency measures,
  • CHP and district heating feasibility studies, heat mapping
  • life cycle CO2 analysis; concept, methodologies and applications,
Software Knowledge
  • Computer literate with experience of Using IES and Hevacomp software to calculate the cooling and heating loads, energy efficiency, and dynamic thermal simulation of buildings.
  •  Proficient with AUTOCAD 2011, NES specifications, NBS specifications and Microsoft office suite
  • Knowledge of Revit MEP (BIM)
