SCPS Dean School of Continuing and Professional Studies

Dean
School of Continuing and Professional Studies
New York University
New York, New York

New York University’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS), one of the largest and most comprehensive programs of its kind, seeks an innovative and entrepreneurial leader to serve as its next Dean.   Based in New York City, the School has shaped the very landscape of professionally oriented education through undergraduate, graduate, and noncredit offerings that span a plethora of industry-related and academic disciplines.  In the classroom, in the field, and online, SCPS programs have given adult learners access to one of the world’s most elite universities and inspired the next generation of leaders to innovate, communicate, and succeed.  SCPS seeks an enterprising Dean to lead the school at a time of significant change for both the University and professional education at large.

New York University (NYU) is a thriving global institution whose main campus is located in Manhattan’s lively Greenwich Village neighborhood, with fully-integrated portal campuses in Asia and the Middle East serving a truly international population of over 40,000 students in 18 schools.  NYU is leading as the center of a globally-interconnected community of teaching excellence and research vision by creating a Global Network University (GNU) with campuses in Abu Dhabi (opened in 2010) and Shanghai (opening in fall 2013).  Together with the Manhattan campus they form the architecture of a genuine, integrated, and interlocking global academic presence.  Supported by study away programs on six continents, the GNU encourages connection and innovation in a circulatory system, with the activities of each element flowing through and enhancing the capacity of others.

Over its 75-year history, SCPS has been a major contributor to the growth and success of the University as a whole, with practical, industry-oriented applied education and rigorous academic standards.  SCPS is one of the largest of NYU’s 18 academic divisions, enrolling 3,300 undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students with annual revenue approaching $120 million dollars.  Over 2,100 full and part-time faculty, many with strong ties to the area’s world-class business community, teach across 10 bachelors and 16 master’s programs, and the School offers an additional 128 non-credit and certificate programs serving more than 40,000 students yearly.  Its curricula have consistently identified and addressed the educational needs of lifelong learners, working adults, and recent college graduates by offering innovative, cutting-edge programs that have defined and transformed the nature of fast-changing professions.

The University seeks an enterprising and inspiring Dean with a wide knowledge of the marketplace and a strong commitment to academic excellence to harness the unique structure, multi-faceted team, and transformative potential of SCPS, integrating the School into the Global Network University.  The Dean will broaden the range of talented students in the School by anticipating changes in the marketplace, in New York City and beyond, as NYU seizes its global, axial moment, and will expand opportunities for a younger, more international student population.  The Dean will work within a highly-matrixed team of academics and practitioners, collaborating with the broader NYU community to take full advantage of the School’s potential to shape a global vision for SCPS.
