Chair (Prof)/Reader in Contemporary Turkish Studies


Applications are invited for the endowed post of Chair (Prof)/Reader in Contemporary Turkish Studies in the European Institute.  The appointment will be from 2 September 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter.   The post has been established on a permanent basis as a result of the generosity of various donors.
At Chair (Prof) level, applications are sought from outstanding candidates of acknowledged international standing in their field with a substantial history of influential publications in top-ranked journals. You will have a proven track record of intellectual leadership and a dynamic, forward-looking research agenda. You will be expected to contribute towards the scholarship and intellectual life of the School and provide academic leadership in research, teaching and related public activities within the Institute.
At Reader level, you will have an emerging international reputation through significant contribution to your field and an outstanding contribution to research both proven and potential. You will have a proven track record of publishing your research in top-ranked journals. You will be expected to contribute towards the scholarship and intellectual life of the European Institute and contribute towards research, teaching and related public activities within the Institute.
The appointee will have a good knowledge of the Turkish language and society, as well as a PhD in a relevant subject.
The appointee will be expected to contribute to the activities of the European Institute and to strengthen its coverage of one or more of its disciplines. Priority will be given to economics, political science and international relations. We are looking to preferably recruit a Chair (Prof) in Contemporary Turkish Studies but will also consider appointing at Reader level for a candidate with potential if no suitable applications are received at Chair (Prof) level.
