Position Summary
The QA Engineer will 
• Set up and implement the quality management processes for the project, verify their adequacy and monitor and audit that the work carried out for and on behalf of the project is in accordance with suitable and approved management systems.
• Provide the focal point for overall project quality.
Key Accountabilities
• Prepare and obtain approval of the Project Quality Management Strategy, Project Quality Plan and Internal/External Quality Assurance Audit Schedule and (where appropriate) the Third Party Verification Strategy and plan.
• Demonstrate visible leadership and commitment to excellent HSSE performance in support of the Project Manager’s accountabilities.
• Co-ordinate the definition and documentation of the Project Quality Control architecture and arrangements. Monitor and measure the suitability and effectiveness of these arrangements, provide feedback on the findings and develop/implement improvements.
• Provide input, from a quality management perspective, into all Invitations to Tender (ITT) and bid enquiries for direct procurement by the PMT. Assist in the review of potential Contractors and Suppliers and participate in pre-award site visits, surveys etc..
• Co-ordinate internal and external management system compliance audits to verify that the requirements of the project are being correctly executed, including audits of the PMT’s Project Management System (spit by functional group), and audits of the quality management systems of the Contractors and their principal Subcontractors and suppliers for compliance with contract requirements and other regulatory body approvals.
• Maintain audit and non-conformance status logs for all project audits.
• Review and approve as necessary the Contractors' and principal Suppliers’ inspection and test plans and participate in selected inspection surveillance operations.
• Review and approve the Contractors’ procedures for material identification and traceability (as used by Contractors in their procurement documentation).
• Verify that equipment and materials, supplied either as BG free-issue or procured by the Contractor, are preserved and maintained by the Contractor in such a manner that, at completion of the work, it has retained the specified purchased condition, paying special attention to the Suppliers’ warranties and specified instructions regarding storage and maintenance at all times during handling, storage and installation.
• Assume overall responsibility for the Third Party Verification process and written schemes of examination (where appropriate), with assistance from the Contractor in terms of the provision of design, procurement, construction, commissioning, installation and hook up input for the work in its and its Subcontractors’ and Suppliers’ scopes.
Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience Needed:
 
• Verifiable performance and delivery in a number of responsible project assignments.
• Technical professional with proven experience in Quality Control management performance in delivering extensive complex projects, specifically major EPC or EPCM contracts with exposure to projects in the UKCS
• Knowledge and experience of HPHT projects and technologies is an advantage.
• Skilled in the application of third party verification activities in a project environment
• Experience in a client/operator environment on projects in the Select, Define and Execute stages.
• Knowledge of the safety, environmental and operational aspects of their work including writing project design bases and functional requirements during project early development stages.
• Knowledge of breadth and depth of project Quality activities appropriate to a large scale offshore project
• Experience of managing technical scopes of work and studies with third party verification contractors to schedule and budget.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:

• Tech Eng Dip or equivalent in a relevant discipline
• Relevant QC/QA Qualification
• Member of a relevant professional association or Institution
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral, supported by inter-personal skills that support working at a senior level.
• Team player with a mindset to work with a global team and with diverse cultures.
• Ability to challenge others in a constructive manner and negotiate with peers and partner representatives to influence decisions or ways of working.
• An ability to coach, mentor and share knowledge in both formal and informal settings.
• Excellent written and presentation skills with ability to explain technical matters to staff not conversant with the detailed technical area.
• A commitment to the high standards of HSSE that are expected in the BG Group.
• Able to manage time effectively, both own time and that of a team to achieve delivery of work against agreed schedules.
Additional Information for External Candidates
This is a contract role starting January 2013 with a duration of 12 months renewable. The Jackdaw Pre-Sanction Project Team is currently based in TVP Reading. As the project moves towards sanction it is anticipated that the engineering PMT will re-locate to a contractors office in the South East of England. Travel to Aberdeen and other UK/European locations will be required for meetings with partners, contractors and external bodies.
