Position Summary
The Pipeline and Subsea Engineer will:

• Provide specialist technical support for the pipeline and subsea engineering work in the Jackdaw development.
• Provide pipeline and subsea engineering design input to the Jackdaw project during the Select, Define and Execute stages
• Act as the owner’s technical representative in the area of pipeline and subsea engineering for Pre-FEED and FEED studies carried out by third party engineering contractors. Ensure facilities are designed to meet the company and the project technical specifications and are safe and operable.
Key Accountabilities

• Provide Pipeline and Subsea engineering input to the Jackdaw development project.
• Manage the pipeline and subsea engineering element of contractor performance on conceptual studies, Pre FEED, FEED and detailed design work to assure it meets the company’s technical, financial, safety and environmental objectives.
• Perform economic evaluations of equipment alternatives with particular emphasis on availability and reliability projections and life cycle costs (Total Cost of Ownership: TCO).
• Participate in PEER assists, PEER Reviews and Technical Assurance reviews to add value and ensure compliance with the BG Assurance Framework and approvals procedures.
• Provide input to the identification and mitigation of technical risks.
• Maintain an up to date knowledge of developments and practices in pipeline and subsea engineering
• Assist the operations and maintenance Asset teams in establishing spare parts requirements and initial maintenance intervals for pipeline and subsea equipment.
• Transfer pipeline and subsea engineering technical knowledge to plant operations and engineering support staff.
Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience Needed:

• Verifiable performance and delivery in a number of discipline engineering activities.
• Technical professional with proven experience in engineering and with projects preferably in the UKCS offshore including commissioning and startup.
• Knowledge and experience of HPHT projects and technologies is an advantage.
• Skilled in the application of relevant major design codes and standards (ASME, API, NFPA, etc)
• Knowledge of or capability to develop expertise in the design, selection and maintenance of pipeline and subsea systems.
• Experience in a client/operator environment on projects in the Select, Define and Execute stages.
• Knowledge of the safety, environmental and operational aspects of their work including writing project design bases and functional requirements during project early development stages.
• Knowledge of breadth and depth of pipeline and subsea engineering needed to manage the quality control of contractor technical work, ensuring appropriate techniques and standards.
• Experience of managing technical scopes of work and engineering studies with third party engineering contractors to schedule and budget.
• Knowledge of equipment dynamics, testing and auditing to interface with technical specialists in these areas.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
• BSc / MSc / MEng degree or equivalent in a relevant Engineering discipline.
• Chartered Engineer, or equivalent, preferred
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral, supported by inter-personal skills that support working at a senior level.
• Team player with a mindset to work with a global team and with diverse cultures.
• Ability to challenge others in a constructive manner and negotiate with peers and partner representatives to influence decisions or ways of working.
• An ability to coach, mentor and share knowledge in both formal and informal settings.
• Excellent written and presentation skills with ability to explain technical matters to staff not conversant with the detailed technical area.
• A commitment to the high standards of HSSE that are expected in the BG Group.
• Able to manage time effectively, both own time and that of a team to achieve delivery of work against agreed schedules.
Additional Information for External Candidates
This is a contract role starting January 2013 with a duration of 12 months renewable.
 
The Jackdaw Pre-Sanction Project Team is currently based in TVP Reading. As the project moves towards sanction it is anticipated that the engineering PMT will re-locate to a contractors office in the South East of England. Travel to Aberdeen and other UK/European locations will be required for meetings with partners, contractors and external bodies.
