The Office of the Cabinet invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill position of

 Director General
of the
Office of Utilities Regulation (Jamaica)

This is a statutory appointment for an initial three (3) year term under the OUR Act.
The Office of the Utilities Regulation (OUR) was established by an Act of Parliament in 1995 as a body corporate with responsibility for regulating the provision of utility services viz: Electricity, Water and Sewerage, Telecommunications, and Public Transportation by road, rail and ferry.
The Director General is responsible to Parliament, through the Cabinet Office, for the regulation of utilities falling under the OUR Act. The Director General will ensure that the necessary systems and procedures needed to effectively monitor regulated utilities are developed, established and operated in a transparent manner in accordance with enabling legislation and written policy guidelines as may be  provided by the Cabinet Office. The incumbent will also be responsible for:
a)     advising the respective Government Ministers on policies relating to utilities regulation;
b)     co-operating and maintaining good relationships with other regulatory agencies ( both local and overseas), impacting on the operations of public utilities; and
c)     maintaining a good relationship with the general public.
 This is a Senior Position and the successful candidate must demonstrate:
·       Wide experience in regulatory affairs, government and commerce, ideally in Jamaica;
·       Ability to present and negotiate at the highest level; and,
·       Ability to develop and motivate staff.
The most suitable candidate will likely have been educated to post graduate level in engineering, law, economics, financial management or business, and will have more than twenty years of senior management experience in a utility regulatory body or academic environment.
