Cardno TEC is currently recruiting for an Electrical Engineer to work out of our Charlottesville, VA location. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the management and leadership of project teams involved in facilities condition assessments and the planning and development of commercial, industrial, and governmental facilities.

Key Responsibilities

​Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Schedule electrical engineering work on projects of varying scope and size
  • Review/seal plans and prepare or review technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates
  • Prepare concept sketches/drawings for Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) technician to prepare construction bid documents 
  • Perform highly diversified duties to evaluate existing facility electrical equipment, diagnose problems and make recommendations for repair or replacement, to include cost estimates
  • Perform energy audits as well as building commissioning or re-commissioning for electrical components 
  • Supervise the work of other engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project and collaborate with a multi-disciplined design team
  • Exercise professional judgment in the scope development and design of lighting and power distribution systems to include panels, relay circuit breakers, electronic controls, control centers, and automatic machine and process controls
  • Prepare proposals and estimates for consulting services
  • Present proposals to potential clients
  • Prepare presentations summarizing final reports or other deliverables and presents them to the client
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Other Requirements

​Minimum Qualifications Required:
  • BS/MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (or the ability to obtain License within six months)
  • Familiar with the National Electric Code
  • Ability to read and interpret building codes, engineering drawings, specifications, and other contract documents
  • Basic computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, Access and file management
  • Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills
  • Ability to exercise professional discretion and judgment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to travel by air
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One or more of the following – CEM, CFM, CCM, PMP, or similar qualifications
  • Superior leadership and management skills
 
Training and Experience: 5-10 years’ experience in electrical engineering consulting services, including planning, design, assessing and construction administration. The following training and experience is also desired:
  • AutoCAD or BIM Experience
  • MS Project and SharePoint experience
  • Experience with facilities on large government/military installations or university campus’ 
  • Experience with Federal agency/DOD planning and budget/contracting procedures
  • General OSHA Safety 
  • NFPA 70E Arc Flash Safety
  • Lock-out Tag-out
  • HAZMAT
  • Electrostatic Discharge Awareness
  • Quality System Awareness
