Cardno TEC is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to work out of our Charlottesville, VA location.  The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the management and leadership of project teams involved in facilities condition assessments and the planning and development of commercial, industrial, and governmental facilities.

Key Responsibilities

​Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Analyze complex problems and recommend practical engineering solutions.
  • Exercise professional discretion and judgment in the scope development and design of building mechanical and control systems.
  • Review/seal plans and prepare or review technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
  • Perform highly diversified duties to evaluate existing facility mechanical and control systems, diagnose problems, and make recommendations for repair or replacement, to include cost estimates.
  • Perform energy audits as well as building commissioning or re-commissioning for mechanical components.
  • Supervise the work of other engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project and collaborate with a multi-disciplined design team.
  • Prepare proposals and estimates for consulting services.
  • Present proposals to potential clients.
  • Prepare presentations summarizing final reports or other deliverables and presents them to the client.
  • Perform other duties associated with a Project Engineer or Project Manager.

Other Requirements

​Minimum Qualifications Required:
  • BS/ MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (or the ability to obtain License within six months)
  • Ability to read and interpret building codes, engineering drawings, specifications, and other contract documents
  • Demonstrated use of advanced trade design principles together with complicated drawings and specifications involving thorough technical skill, knowledge, and application of basic theory
  • Basic computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, Access, and file management
  • Demonstrated excellent technical writing and oral communication skills
  • Ability to exercise professional discretion and judgment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work in project locations remote from the home office for extended time periods- such remote deployments may occur with as little as three calendar days intervening between deployments
  • Ability to travel by air
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One or more of the following – CEM, CFM, CCM, PMP, or similar qualifications
  • AutoCAD or BIM
  • MS Project and SharePoint experience
  • Experience with facilities on large government/military installations or university campuses
  • Experience with Federal agency/DoD planning and budgeting/contracting procedures
  • Superior leadership and management skills
 
Training and Experience:
  • 5-10 years’ experience in mechanical engineering consulting services, including planning, design, assessing, and construction administration for building mechanical and control systems
  • Experience with large government/military facilities a plus
  • Experience with building support infrastructure and facility management
  • Demonstrate considerable judgment required to plan and perform unusual and difficult work where only general methods are available
  • General OSHA safety
