BBC Arabic is renowned for broadcasting impartial and accurate news and information which is strong on analysis and expertise. Our output is multimedia on Radio, TV and Online to Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East and beyond. And we involve viewers and listeners in our output, giving you the chance to debate, comment and engage with others and the BBC. We follow the news wherever it leads. We are recruiting a Head of BBC Arabic to lead the service editorially and managerially.

Role

 
Holding ultimate responsibility for the output of BBC Arabic and for its staff, you’ll provide the creative framework and vision required to strengthen and widen the range of multiplatform output - television, radio, online and social media. You’ll ensure that BBC Arabic delivers maximum journalistic value from its own content and resources to its own audiences and to the wider BBC News output. Providing editorial leadership on Arabic affairs for the wider BBC, you’ll also utilise BBC News output to maximum benefit for the BBC Arabic audience.  Salary - minimum £60K.

Requirements

 

With a successful track record in a senior editorial role you’ll have experience over a wide range of output and will be able to make judgements on editorial values, especially when under pressure during international crises. You’ll have experience of leading managerial staff in an editorial environment together with the ability to successfully lead teams through significant changes.  Fluent Arabic and English are essential, as is in-depth knowledge of the Arab World, its history, politics and culture.  To compete in the Arabic media market, you’ll also need the skills to identify and pursue new, even unorthodox, broadcast opportunities.
