BBC Arabic is the oldest and largest of the World Service's language services – celebrating its 75thanniversary this year – and it employs more than 250 staff in London and in bureaux around the world including Cairo, Baghdad, Ramallah and Washington DC. BBC Arabic plays a key role in the whole of the BBC’s journalism: in the Arab region, in the UK and around the world.
BBC Arabic is a dynamic multimedia service: on television, on radio, online and via mobile devices. It has a weekly reach of more than 25m audiences. The Service is renowned for the quality of its journalism, the strength of its investigations, and its’ fearless and rigorous independence. BBC Arabic is free to tackle any issue and ask any question.

Role

 
As Digital Editor, BBC Arabic, you’ll have editorial responsibility for, and develop all, digital output for BBC Arabic, including Arabic Online, Arabic social media, content for mobile devices, Arabic UGC and Talking Point. You’ll help lead strategic editorial development of BBC Arabic’s digital offering, working with senior stakeholders in BBC Arabic, World Service, World Service Future Media, Global News and News Group to lead the launch of new editorial approaches in Arabic website coverage, adapting the output as needed to new platforms and changing audience needs and commercial priorities.

Requirements

 
With a clear understanding of the needs of BBC Arabic digital audiences and thorough knowledge of the BBC Arabic website and its allied services, you’ll be clear on the changes in technology, competition and commercial developments which have a bearing on these. You’ll be fluent in Arabic and English and have strong editorial judgement, based on extensive journalistic experience. In addition, you’ll have a strong interest in and thorough knowledge of the Middle East and Northern African news agenda and the international news agenda.
