London SW1 £31,500 - £38,600 p.a. (dependent on skills and expertise)
Glasgow £29,200 - £35,795 p.a. (dependent on skills and expertise)

In this role, you will take the lead on analysis and making recommendations on changes to the electricity distribution charging methodologies, and also contribute to wider network regulation policy issues.
In addition, you will lead on areas of longer-term policy development, including how charges support the roll out of smart meters and development of smart grids.  This will include engaging with Ofgem staff (including senior management), industry representatives and other interested parties on proposals for modifying these methodologies and on other electricity distribution charge issues.  You will be involved in providing advice to senior staff on key issues, input on cross-divisional policy development, and expert advice (e.g. for Ofgem’s determinations in disputes).
The post is to provide cover for a career break, and as such is offered as a 12 month temporary appointment or secondment.
Key Requirements:
  • Evidence of aptitude for numeracy – e.g. degree in a discipline such as economics, accountancy/finance, mathematics, science, or engineering, or equivalent.
  • Excellent analytical skills – both quantitative and qualitative. This includes the application of economic principles and the use of complicated spreadsheet models.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly to non-experts, and to apply these skills in delivering documents and representing Ofgem in external meetings; ability to engage with experts on complex subjects.
  • Ability to complete work of high standards within tight timescales.
  • Strong IT skills, especially proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
