Senior Economist, Wholesale Markets, Band D
£43,600 -£56,650 p.a. (dependent on skills and expertise)

This is a key role in Ofgem’s duty to ensure that the wholesale energy markets remain competitive, efficient and deliver secure supplies. The role carries significant responsibility for ensuring market arrangements deliver these aims, through reviewing existing trading arrangements and market rules, assessing modifications and liaising with industry and government.
There is also an important management function, both in terms of direct line management, and more general coaching/mentoring of junior staff in the team.
Key Requirements:
  • Expertise of regulatory economics and/or competition policy.
  • Wide-ranging expertise in applying regulatory economics and/or developing policy and strategy in a commercial or public sector environment, ideally gained within the energy sector.
  • Proven experience of managing staff and leading teams.
  • Strong communication skills - gained and applied at a senior level.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects successfully, against challenging and competing deadlines.
  • A degree in economics or related discipline, or equivalent.
