Web 2.0 Programmer - Boston, MA

Description:
JSI is seeking a bright, highly motivated, detail oriented individual with strong teamwork, communication, and time-management skills for an opening as a Web 2.0 Programmer. The Web 2.0 Programmer position will support the web development efforts of two international organizations, JSI and World Education and reports to the Director of Web Services. S/he will provide support to JSI/WEI staff in a variety of tasks related to web development. The candidate must be a quick learner, and a customer-focused self-starter who is able to work independently and work well in a team environment. This position calls for someone who is able to work on multiple projects concurrently for internal and external clients while meeting project deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop and test internal and external web sites and applications
  • Maintain development and production instances of Word Press including security patches and plugin updates
  • Apply knowledge of industry trends and developments to improve service to our clients
  • Learn new skills to enhance productivity and deliver new products to meet customer requirements
  • Contribute to the development of internal tools and collaborate on process enhancements to increase the effectiveness of our Web Development team
  • Develop code that adheres to W3C web specifications 
  • Perform ongoing troubleshooting, and implementing enhancements for internal and external web sites and applications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years experience in web applications development
  • Strong experience in developing server side scripting with PHP 
  • Experience in developing sites with Web 2.0 technologies – e.g. WordPress, Joomla!, Drupal
  • Experience with installing, integrating and customizing plugins
  • Strong HTML, JavaScript, CSS, including optimizing and writing cross-browser compatible code
  • Knowledge of at least one other structured programming language - knowledge of Cold Fusion a plus
  • Basic knowledge of XML/XSL
  • Detail oriented in both front end design and back end code
  • Ability to work harmoniously with a variety of co-workers in a team environment 
  • Excellent written communication skills 
  • Very good analytical skills
  • Knowledge of MySQL - ORACLE a plus
  • Knowledge of Section 508 and accessibility issues a plus
  • Experience developing sites with responsive design a plus
  • Knowledge of Mobile/WAP site development a plus
