WWF believes in a future where people and nature thrive and is committed to safeguarding the natural world. Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, WWF also works on tackling climate change, as well as systems of sustianable production and consumption. WWF focuses on influencing key decisions – often involving governments and businesses - which have a significant impact on the natural world.
The Director of Science & Policy will be responsible for ensuring that the latest international science underpins WWF’s advocacy work, and guides its policy positions. The Director will lead a team of around 10, to provide specialist advice to support the development and delivery of WWF’s work, as well as monitoring its impact. The post-holder will engage with external audiences in other parts of the WWF Network, and with government, business, funders, the media, and the science community.
Candidates for the role will probably have a PhD in biological or environmental sciences and bring have strong experience working at the interface between science and policy. WWF is looking for someone with proven leadership skills as well as the credibility and energy to make decisions in a fast-moving context. The ability to communicate with specialist and non-specialist audiences and act as a media spokesperson will also be important.
