EUROPIA: Background Information
- EUROPIA (based in Brussels) currently represents the interests of 42 European oil refining, distribution and marketing industries to the EU Institutions,
- EUROPIA members’ activities account for close to 100% of EU petroleum refining capacity and 80% of EU retail fuel sales and there are active members in all EU Member States plus Norway and Switzerland.
Purpose of the Role:
To support EUROPIA Division both to monitor and analyse policy developments in the EU Institutions that could impact on EUROPIA interests, and help to develop advocacy strategies and plans.
The role also involves carrying out advocacy, general communication of EUROPIA’s interests to stakeholders, internal reporting and communications.

Organisational Fit: EU Relations Manager
General responsibilities:
- Monitor EU policy and legislative proposals potentially relevant to EUROPIA in one or more policy areas.
- Support Policy Executives and EU Relations Manager to:
- Analyse proposed texts from the EU Institutions and develop EUROPIA proposals and amendments
- Develop advocacy aims and strategies; assist development of plans to achieve these aims.
- Communicate in writing and orally to both internal and external audiences on assigned policy issues
- Communicate with Member Companies and Issue Groups
- Develop and maintain a contact network in the EU institutions.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the policy and legislative procedures in the EU Institutions.
Professional Profile:
Experience, skills, knowledge:
The ideal candidate will have the following skills, knowledge and experience.
- University graduate with strong interest in politics, institutional affairs.
- 5 years working experience, including exposure to EU Institutions, with good knowledge of the EU institutional procedures
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to influence others through these.
- Good ability to analyse, summarise and pick out essential elements of texts, sometimes containing technical elements
- Fluent in English and at least one other EU language
- Team player with good cultural sensitivity
- Ability to build and maintain network of contacts
- Positive mindset and integrity
- Good flexibility and the ability to work independently
- Experience of trade association and/or the energy sector is an asset
