Climate Change Advocacy Officer, CARE International

CARE Denmark (CDK) is seeking a Climate Change Advocacy Officer for the CARE International Poverty, Environmental and Climate Change Network (PECCN). The Climate Change Advocacy Officer forms a core member of the International Poverty, Environment and Climate Change Network (PECCN) secretariat reporting to the PECCN Director and working closely with other PECCN team members. The Climate Change Advocacy Officer is responsible for supporting and coordinating climate change related advocacy and policy activities in CARE that are active under the priority programming themes of CARE and those of the new CARE climate change strategy (CCCS) and PECCN. Starting date is June 1st 2013 or as soon as possible with an initial contract period of two years.

Key responsibilities:

• Leadership and coordination of CI’s climate change advocacy and policy activities
• Strategic programme development, resource mobilisation and programme quality
• Supporting knowledge management, learning and capacity building
• External relations, partnerships and communications
• Technical assistance on Climate Change advocacy to CARE and PECCN partner programmes

Profile:

• Minimum qualification of a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
• Minimum five years of working experience, including:
  o Substantial experience in international development advocacy and policy development in the context of climate change with a focus on adaptation, climate finance, smallholder agriculture and food security and DRR.
  o Substantial experience in political campaigning and or policy lobbying.
  o Knowledge and experience of working closely with communications staff to achieve advocacy objectives.
  o Knowledge of international and national level advocacy and policy institutions and frameworks.
  o Facilitating and coordinating regional networks and building advocacy capacity.
  o Substantial experience of living and working in developing countries.
  o Experience in resource mobilisation with multiple partners and a network approach.
  o Ability to work remotely but also as part of a global team.
• Knowledge of working in complex international networks an advantage.
• Second languages an advantage.

We offer: an attractive position with the possibility to work from your home base or a CARE office. It is essential that the post is based in a region with good international travel access and has permanent residence and work permit in this country. The post must be willing to travel up to 30% of the time.
