The European Patent Office in Munich is seeking a Graphic & Document Design Officer *

in Graphic Design Munich (Dept. 4.4.3.1)
1-year contract
(extensions are possible, but the total contract term cannot exceed 36 months)

Graphic Design is a specialist unit within Internal Services Munich. Internal Services covers a number of areas, including graphic design, document design, print production, reprography, mail rooms, messengers and office supplies.

The Graphic Design team is looking for a new member to help support and develop its services. These range from initial conception and layouting right through to production co ordination of a wide of range of products (magazines, flyers, posters, banners, brochures, programmes and graphics) for numerous clients Office-wide.

Main duties

  • Conception, design and layout of diverse publications
  • Design implementation, including pre-press, proofing and print job creation
  • Advising in-house clients on publications and visual usage in line with corporate identity guidelines
  • Creation of illustrations and graphics
  • Template development
  • Supporting workflow development and aiding automation in Adobe software
  • Supporting skill and knowledge transfer within the Graphic Design team.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate will have
  • a diploma or further training in graphic design
  • a minimum of 3 years' experience of working with graphic design agencies, on either the client or business side
  • very good knowledge of Apple Mac and Adobe products (especially Indesign and Photoshop), plus Microsoft Office literacy
  • the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment and to communicate with people
  • team player spirit with good interpersonal skills and a co-operative, helpful and supportive approach
  • well developed organisational skills
  • the ability to motivate and sustain team members
  • experience of training a small team and/or developing workflows
  • have good knowledge of at least two of the official languages**, preferably English and German.

Minimum qualifications

Completed secondary education, or - in exceptional cases - equivalent professional experience.

The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of qualifications, supplemented as appropriate by interviews, tests and/or a personality questionnaire.

Candidates invited for interview may also be asked to submit work references and portfolios beforehand. The Office will return supporting portfolios.
