Application Dates
The 2013 Urban Scholars - Graduate application period is February 15 through March 25, 2013.

Interviews will be held May 6-10, 2013.

Finalists will be notified on May 13, 20123.
Salary Range
A taxable stipend amount of $7,559 will be distributed on a bi-weekly basis during the summer. The hourly payment is approximately $15.74 an hour for 40 hours a week.
Position Information
Urban Scholars is an internship and leadership development program providing students from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds with a distinctive professional experience focused on gaining essential leadership skills and creating career pathways to positions of influence.

The 2013 Urban Scholars graduate track is a 12-week program that begins on May 20, 2013 and ends on August 9, 2013. The City of Minneapolis will select 2 graduate or law school students who will be assigned to the Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights.

In addition to the internship, there will be leadership development trainings and networking opportunities for Scholars to understand the roles and responsibility of appointed and non-appointed professionals in the City of Minneapolis.
Job Duties
As an Urban Scholar, you will receive various projects assigned by Department Leaders. A job description will be provided to you in detail once you are selected.

You are expected to provide full commitment to the projects and workload assigned. Also, you will be required to attend all Urban Scholars sponsored events and training.

You will also be part of a team-based community project that will require your full dedication and commitment to fully implement by the end of the summer. More details will be provided if selected.
Required Education
All graduate students interested in learning more about careers in the public sector are encouraged to apply. To be considered, you must be enrolled and in good standing at an accredited graduate or law school.
Required Experience
Paid and unpaid experiences will be considered. Previous public sector work experience is valued in our selection process, but not required.
Background Check
Background checks will be administered. Misdemeanors or felonies will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Selection Process
If you are selected for an interview, please be prepared to provide an unofficial copy of your transcripts, a copy of your resume, a cover letter/statement of interest, and a brief writing sample (10 pages or less).

The Urban Scholars interview process will be held May 6-10, 2013. A City of Minneapolis selection committee will make the final selection of Urban Scholars by May 13, 2013, at which time finalists will be notified.
