WWF DRC, Forest Programme Manager

We are looking for the Forest Program Manager who will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of WWF policies for conservation and sustainable management of forest ecosystems in the context of the GHOA vision for the Democratic Republic of Congo. The incumbent will be responsible for achieving the objectives and the outcomes of the program as well as the administrative and financial monitoring of projects under his supervision.

Location:

The position is based in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo).

Main responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate implementation of various projects within the sustainable forest management program in DRC. Planning, monitoring and evaluation of activities, revision of work plans, etc
  • Ensure responsibility of administrative and financial management of the program (monitoring implementation of budgets, proper use of resources, timely recording in accordance with appropriate formats);
  • Ensure involvement of WWF in national, regional and international sustainable forest management processes;
  • Support development of proposals, establish contacts with potential partners and research funding;
  • Evaluate and coordinate support to local partners and stakeholders for the sustainable management of forests in the DRC and supervise organization of workshops and trainings;
  • Ensure management of forest certification processes in the DRC and RPAN pilot project focused on involvement of local communities;
  • Coordinate activities aimed at strengthening institutional capacity of the DRC in forest monitoring;
  • Coordinate implementation and ensure application of carbon mapping, monitoring tools and participatory benefit sharing mechanism of this pilot project.

What you need:

Required Qualifications

A Master degree in Forest with a minimum of 7 years of combined experience on project management, forest certification and REDD +.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Good knowledge of thematic issues, of conservation of natural resources and socio-economic development of rural communities.
  • Knowledge of issues related to REDD + and forest certification, legality of timber,
  • Good management and team leadership capacities with excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent analytical and complex problem solving skills.
  • Good negotiation, communication and facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of DRC and of Central Africa would be an asset,
  • Experience with donors funded institutions, particularly conservation institutions will be an asset.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Fluency in English and French.
  • Evidence of management with international conservation organizations is an asset.
