Energy Policy Officer/Standardisation

ECOS, the European Environmental Citizens’ Organisation for Standardisation is a non-profit umbrella organisation working to defend the environmental interests in standards, in particular those developed in support of the implementation of European regulations and public policies. ECOS also represents the environmental interests in the implementation process of the EU Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Directives. We represent 28 member organisations, including 6 European environmental NGOs and 22 national organisations. More information at: www.ecostandard.org.

The position will require:

  • Coordinating and implementing ECOS’ project related to the inclusion of environmental aspects in European standards. This work is closely linked to the implementation of the EU Ecodesign, Energy Labelling as well as Energy Performance of Buildings directives;
  • Selecting and managing technical experts to assist ECOS on these topics;
  • Representing ECOS in technical meetings and conferences;
  • Communication to ECOS members and other interested environmental NGOs;
  • Analysing documents of a technical nature and drafting policy positions based on technical input received;
  • Collaborating with member organisations and other consumer and environmental NGOs at national and European level;
  • Providing scientific support to other colleagues in area(s) of expertise;
  • Drafting funding applications, reporting to funders and undertaking related administrative work.

The main skills and competences we are looking for include:

  • University degree in engineering and/or environmental sciences (ESSENTIAL);
  • At least two years’ experience working with environmental policy, standardisation;
  • Very good command of English; other languages an asset;
  • Knowledge and/or experience in European affairs and/or standardisation;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills including ability to translate technical issues into digestible information;
  • Excellent time and project management, forward planning and prioritisation skills;
  • Affinity to NGO-work and/or environmental issues;
  • Good organisational and IT skills, good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new issues, proactive attitude, self-motivation.
The position is a full-time one, with an open-ended contract subject to a six-month probationary period. We offer a competitive salary and an additional benefits package.
