BOARD LIAISON

Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Board Liaison. The position reports to the Deputy Executive Director (“DED”) of the Development and Outreach Division and works closely with the Executive Director on relevant Board related matters.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Plan, staff, and manage four (4) full Board and Board Committee meetings per year, including multiple international meetings;
  2. Develop meeting agendas in close consultation with senior staff;
  3. Identify and secure venues and manage all meeting-related production;
  4. Project manage programming for international Board trips;
  5. Serve on Council Summit team to implement programs and coordinate logistics;
  6. Gather, prepare, edit and distribute meeting materials and briefing packets;
  7. Maintain Board contacts;
  8. Coordinate, participate and assist in Board special events and fundraisers;
  9. Manage and support ad hoc projects related to Board governance matters;
  10. Handle project and meeting follow-up such as survey information, compiling and editing notes, and processing vendor invoices and expenses;
  11. Provide administrative support to the Board members; 
  12. Provide administrative support to the DED of Development and Outreach, including scheduling, calendar management, travel plans, and other day-to-day duties as needed;
  13. Provide support to the DED of Development and Outreach on all matters relative to the Development Department, such as coordinating all-development staff meetings,  senior development staff meetings, and others as needed;
  14. Provide back-up support to the Executive Director as needed; and
  15. Carry out other tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:  A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration, nonprofit management, or a related field is required.
Experience:  Minimum 5 years of office/administrative experience, preferably in the non-profit or academic environment, dealing with high level staff, board members or donors.
Related Skills and Knowledge: 
  1. Excellent organizational, administrative, and analytical skills are required.
  2. Good judgment, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality are required.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required; fluency in another language is desirable.
  4. Ability to explain matters clearly and efficiently to others is required.
  5. Strong computer skills are required.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills are required in order to interact diplomatically with high-level individuals including Board members, donors, media, government and other external contacts.
  7. Ability to work as a team member is essential.
  8. Ability to function under pressure, prioritize competing demands with minimal supervision and handle numerous tasks simultaneously and with accuracy are required.
  9. Strong interest in international human rights is desirable.
