Description:The Cancer Prevention and Treatment Fund in Washington, D.C. is seeking a part-time or full-time intern (to begin as soon as possible) to be this year's 5k Race Deputy Coordinator to assist with coordination and implementation of the race. While the race is in September, people will be considered for the internship even if they are not available past August. The internship offers a chance to support a great cause while gaining marketable skills and valuable work experience with quantifiable results, such as number of racers, the amount raised, number of websites and social media sites publicizing the race, etc.

The internship is unpaid but a transportation subsidy will be offered to defray the cost of getting to and from our Farragut Square office. The Deputy Race Coordinator will assist the Race Coordinator with a variety of tasks, including:
- Securing sponsors and ensure proper appreciation and recognition is given.
- Planning and implementing the overall marketing of the 5k through social media, websites, electronic mailings, and outreach to community partners, sponsors, and universities.
- Serving as a secondary point of contact for all inquiries related to the Cancer Prevention and Treatment Fund 5k.
- Managing race participants and donors in electronic database platform.
- Assisting with 5k volunteer recruitment, training, communication, appreciation, and recognition. Maintain a database of interested volunteers connecting them to specific roles.
- Ensuring the development and implementation of a thorough 5k safety and communication plan.
- Other duties assigned by the Race Coordinator to assist in the overall implementation of the 5k as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- The internship is suitable for someone from or already living in Washington, D.C
- Must be able to commit to at least 2 months over the summer (ideally June 1-Mid-August)
- Outstanding relationship building skills and the ability to engage potential participants, sponsors, and volunteers
- Excellent project management, organization, communication, and team participation skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under time constraints
- Previous event planning coordinator experience preferred
