Job Purpose
 
An exciting and challenging opportunity to join the Information Technology Department at British Airways. The role will develop your understanding of the programming, testing, analysis and design to help deliver real IT projects that benefit the airline.
 
 At British Airways, the IT department is responsible for creating the airline's IT strategy and delivering the supporting IT products and services. Our objectives are to deliver a secure, robust and reliable worldwide IT operation 24x7 at a reducing cost, to deliver IT projects to time, budget and specification, with year-on-year productivity improvements, and to simplify BA's processes by delivering efficient IT solutions hand-in-hand with business changes.
 
Strong team-working, communication, prioritisation, and computer skills are essential. You will also need to have lots of energy and enthusiasm with a capability of learning new skills quickly.
 
The IT Software Engineer Apprenticeship Programme is undertaken in conjunction with a local college who will be providing the academic support and validation of the Programme, which will allow successful applicants to gain a BTEC Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship for IT, Software, Web & Telecom Professionals

Principal Accountabilities

  • Successful completion of BTEC Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship for IT, Software, Web & Telecom Professionals
  • During the role there will be a requirement for an involvement in specific tasks and projects to assist in both the completion of the diploma but also to support the business
  • Specific coaching will be provided throughout the programme to ensure both understanding and competence
  • Creates and amends simple programs from supplied specifications using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result
  • Implements simple amendments to programs from supplied specifications using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result
  • Plans, designs and conducts tests of software; corrects errors and re-tests to achieve an error-free result
  • Provides support to customers on a day-to-day basis, communicating incident resolution
  • Analyses business problems using structured methods, highlighting issues such as insufficient or ambiguous information, and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Under guidance, may produce appropriate scoping or design deliverables, or may execute system testing tasks, or may audit implemented solutions to ensure that planned benefits are realised.

The Individual

Essential Capabilities
  • 5 GCSE’s at grade A* to C (or equivalent) including English and Maths
  • 3 A Level passes (or equivalent)
  • Aged 18 or over
  • Genuine and considered desire to launch a career in IT at British Airways
