Job Purpose
 
An exciting and challenging opportunity to join the Information Technology Department at British Airways. The role will develop your understanding of the systems and support functions to deliver a secure, robust and reliable worldwide operation at British Airways.
 
At British Airways, the IT department is responsible for creating the airline's IT strategy and delivering the supporting IT products and services. Our objectives are to deliver a secure, robust and reliable worldwide IT operation 24x7 at a reducing cost, to deliver IT projects to time, budget and specification, with year-on-year productivity improvements, and to simplify BA's processes by delivering efficient IT solutions hand-in-hand with business changes.
 
Strong team-working, communication, prioritisation, and computer skills are essential. You will also need to have lots of energy and enthusiasm with a capability of learning new skills quickly.
 
The IT Operations Apprenticeship Programme is undertaken in conjunction with Uxbridge College who will be providing the academic support and validation of the Programme, which will allow successful applicants to gain a BTEC Level 3 Diploma for IT & Telecoms Professionals.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Contribute to supporting the delivery of IT services to British Airways on a 24 x7 basis
  • Carry out agreed operational procedures as required
  • Contribute to maintenance, installation and problem resolution
  • Assist in investigation and resolution of network problems
  • Monitor and log the actual service provided, compared to that required by the Service Level agreements
  • Successful completion of BTEC Level 3 Diploma for IT & Telecoms Professionals
  • During the role there will be a requirement for an involvement in specific tasks and projects to assist in both the completion of the diploma but also to support the business
  • Specific coaching will be provided throughout the programme to ensure both understanding and competence

The Individual

Essential Capabilities
  • 5 GCSE’s at grade A* to C (or equivalent) including English and Maths
  • 2 A Level passes (or equivalent)
  • Able to work a full 24 x 7 shift pattern including early, late and night shifts as well as weekends
  • Aged 18 or over
  • Genuine and considered desire to launch a career in IT at British Airways
