CARE International is a leading development and humanitarian charity supporting the poorest communities in 84 countries around the world. Our aim is to bring sustainable and innovative solutions to complex poverty issues and last year we supported 997 poverty-fighting projects that reached more than 83 million people. Our mission is to create lasting change in poor communities and we put money where it is needed most.
CARE International UK (CIUK) is recruiting a Senior Policy Advisor to lead on delivering our private sector policy, research and analysis and implement our private sector advocacy strategy.
CARE believes that responsible and accountable private sector can contribute to economic growth, generate employment opportunities and provide new solutions to poverty reduction. At the same time, irresponsible business practices or weak regulation can trap people in a cycle of poverty. CARE has a strong track record implementing innovative pro-poor profit models across a wide range of sectors including financial services, agricultural value chains and the garment sector. Current high profile partnerships include Barclays, Mondelez, GSK and the JITA social enterprise in Bangladesh.
This new position offers the exciting opportunity of harnessing the findings from our extensive evidence base to inform the policies and practices of governments and business, and position CARE as a ‘thought-leader’ on private sector issues.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing and delivering successful policy initiatives that have changed attitudes, behavior, business practices or legislation; experience of working within the private sector, or related organization; excellent communication and networking skills and strong political antennae.
